Chini Cake House

Chini (चिनी) means sugar. This imagined cake house in Jhamsikhel bakes every sponge on the day. The site is a pastry boutique: cream, cherry and cocoa, a soft serif, scalloped edges and faint sprinkles.

The heart of it is a cake builder that draws the cake live in SVG: round, heart, square or two tiers, five sizes, six sponges, three frostings and six colours, with flowers, sprinkles, gold leaf, candles and the customer's message written on top. The price, servings and notice needed update with every tap, and on phones the drawing stays pinned while you choose.

The kitchen can finish four cakes per two-hour window; big cakes take two places, fondant and tiers need two days' notice, and the server checks it all again. Customers track their cake from the oven to decorating, ready and delivered, with the drawing of their own cake on the tracking page.
