Concept design · Pottery site with a drag-to-shape pot designer, wheel bookings and kiln firings
Mato Pottery
Mato (माटो) means soil. This imagined family pottery sits on Bhaktapur's real Pottery Square, where pots dry in rows across the stones. The design is earthy and handmade: clay cream with a faint grain, charcoal and Bhaktapur terracotta, a soft wonky serif, arched frames like the carved Newar windows, and a row of little pots as a divider.
The centrepiece is a pot designer. A pot turns on a drawn wheel, shaded and ringed like thrown clay; drag the white handles at its foot, belly, shoulder, neck and lip, or use the sliders, then choose Bhaktapur red, stoneware or smoke-fired black and a dipped glaze with drips. Height, width, volume in litres and price update as you shape it, and the same drawing appears on the confirmation and tracking pages.
Two real bookings run on the backend. Wheel classes give each person a numbered wheel, and a two-day weekend class holds its wheels on both days, so Saturday's taster shows fewer free. Commissions are re-priced from their volume on the server, must leave ten days to dry, can't glaze smoke-fired black, and take one or two shelf spots in a Friday kiln firing; a full kiln is refused and the next firing is offered.
